Technical field to which the invention relates
The present invention relates generally to the automotive industry.
It relates more particularly to a method for updating a confidential code stored in the memory of a computer on board a motor vehicle, which confidential code is provided to allow secure remote starting of this motor vehicle.
TECHNOLOGICAL BACKGROUND
It can happen, in both hot and cold weather, that the driver of a motor vehicle wishes to start the engine of this vehicle remotely, that is to say even before having boarded the vehicle.
In cold weather, this early start defrosts the front and rear windshields, and starts to warm up the passenger compartment of the vehicle.
In warm weather, this early start cools the vehicle interior using air conditioning.
Various methods are currently known for starting a vehicle remotely. It is indeed currently possible to use an electronic key adapted to communicate with the vehicle, or a portable electronic device (tablet or mobile phone) programmed for this purpose.
However, these methods present two major risks.
The first risk is that an unauthorized user such as a child tries to start the vehicle while the latter is in a confined space, which could prove dangerous to the health of the person who first enters this vehicle. confined place.
Another risk is that an attacker attempts to grab the vehicle, hacking into the remote connection to start the vehicle.
Object of the invention
In order to remedy the aforementioned risks of the state of the art, the present invention provides a solution making it possible to ensure that the person who wishes to start the vehicle remotely is indeed an authorized adult person, so that he is in particular aware risks inherent in starting a vehicle in a confined space.
This solution consists in using a confidential code recorded in the vehicle's on-board computer, which the user must enter each time in order to be authorized to start his vehicle remotely.
More particularly, according to the invention, there is proposed a method for updating this confidential code in the memory of the on-board computer, which comprises steps of:
- entry by the user on the mobile terminal of a new confidential code,
- transmission by the mobile terminal to the on-board computer of said new confidential code,
- transmission by the mobile terminal or the on-board computer of a request for actuation of a predetermined physical means from the passenger compartment of said motor vehicle,
- memorization and validation of the new confidential code by the on-board computer if said predetermined physical means has been activated within a predetermined period.
The invention therefore takes place in the specific context of remote starting of a vehicle, in which the user is asked to enter a confidential code before authorizing this remote starting.
It is understood that in this context, it is necessary for the motor vehicle to memorize this confidential code. The invention then offers a reliable and flexible solution allowing the user to update this confidential code.
Thus, thanks to the invention, in the case of a sale of the motor vehicle, the new owner can easily enter a new confidential code, even if he does not know the confidential code which was used until then by the old owner. Likewise, if the owner of the vehicle has forgotten the confidential code, he can enter a new one without difficulty. It is indeed the actuation of the physical means which allows the vehicle to know that the person who is trying to change the memorized confidential code is well authorized to perform this operation, since this actuation means that this person is well located in the passenger compartment of the vehicle and as such, it is indeed a person with a valid key.
Furthermore, thanks to the procedure for registering the new code, there is no two-way information exchange to be set up between the mobile terminal and the vehicle, since the code is simply transmitted once from the terminal mobile to the vehicle, which avoids opening a flaw in the computer security of the vehicle.
Finally, since this solution is only software, it does not require additional sensors and is easy to use.
Other advantageous and non-limiting characteristics of the updating process according to the invention are as follows:
- the new confidential code is the only code required by the on-board computer to update the confidential code (the user is not asked to enter an old confidential code);
the predetermined physical means is a key or a starting card for the motor vehicle or a button accessible from the passenger compartment of the motor vehicle;
- the on-board computer and / or the mobile terminal being adapted to communicate with a messaging server, which stores the coordinates of an owner of the motor vehicle, there is provided a step of sending to said messaging server a request for transmission of a message to the owner of the motor vehicle as soon as a new confidential code is memorized and validated by the on-board computer;
- the on-board computer and / or the mobile terminal being adapted to communicate with a messaging server, which stores the contact details of an owner of the motor vehicle, there is provided a step of sending to said messaging server a request for transmission of a message to the owner of the motor vehicle as soon as a new confidential code is transmitted by the mobile terminal.
The invention also relates to a method of remote starting of a motor vehicle using a mobile terminal fitted to a user, comprising:
- a prior operation to update a confidential code stored in the memory of an on-board computer of the motor vehicle by means of a process as mentioned above,
- a step of entering by the user on the mobile terminal a request for remote starting of the motor vehicle,
a step of transmitting said request from the mobile terminal to said on-board computer, and
- a step of starting the motor vehicle.
According to the invention, prior to the start of the motor vehicle, steps are provided for:
- entry by the user on a mobile terminal of a confidential code,
- transmission from the mobile terminal to the on-board computer of said confidential code or of a challenge determined as a function of said confidential code, and
- verification by the on-board computer that said confidential code or that said challenge corresponds to the new confidential code recorded in its memory or to a challenge determined according to said new confidential code.
Preferably, if, during the verification step, the confidential code entered (or the challenge deduced from it) does not correspond to the confidential code recorded in the memory of the on-board computer (or to the challenge determined according to this confidential code) , the input, transmission and verification steps are repeated at least once.
Advantageously, after the entry, transmission and verification steps have been repeated at least once, if said confidential code (or said challenge) does not correspond to the confidential code recorded in the memory of the on-board computer (or to the challenge determined in function of this confidential code), the on-board computer prohibits any remote starting of the motor vehicle until a user starts the motor vehicle from the passenger compartment of the motor vehicle.
According to another advantageous characteristic of the invention, the remote start request includes an hour of programming said remote start.
Detailed description of an exemplary embodiment
The description which follows with reference to the accompanying drawings, given by way of nonlimiting examples, will make it clear what the invention consists of and how it can be carried out.
In the accompanying drawings:
- Figure 1 is a schematic view of a context in which can be implemented the invention; and
- Figure 2 is a diagram illustrating the steps for implementing the invention.
In FIG. 1, a motor vehicle 10 and a mobile terminal 20 are shown.
As shown in FIG. 1, the motor vehicle 10 is a conventional car, comprising a chassis which is supported by wheels and which delimits a passenger compartment 11. It may be any type of motor vehicle, for example electric, thermal or hybrid drive.
As shown in Figure 1, the mobile terminal 20 is here a smart cell phone (or "smartphone").
Alternatively, it could be another type of mobile terminal, for example a remote control dedicated to driving different functions of the motor vehicle. It could also be a smartwatch or a tablet computer.
In the context of the present invention, the mobile terminal 20 is programmed to be able to enter into communication with the motor vehicle 10 in order to exchange data.
For this purpose, it could use a direct link at short or medium range (for example of the Bluetooth or WIFI type).
However, here, it will use a long-range wireless link, which will operate a mobile phone network 30.
For this, the motor vehicle 10 and the mobile terminal 20 are both designed to connect to the mobile telephone network 30. Conventionally, the latter comprises base stations 31 adapted to enter into communication via radio links with the mobile terminal 20 and the motor vehicle 10, gateways for connection to a public network 32, for example the Internet, and servers 33.
We will consider here in particular a server 33 which is managed by or with the consent of the manufacturer of the motor vehicle 10.
We can now describe in more detail the components of the motor vehicle 10 and of the mobile terminal 20 which are useful for understanding the invention.
The motor vehicle 10 comprises at least one computer. There are three here.
It more precisely comprises here a first computer 13 managing the communications of the vehicle with the outside. This first computer 13 is connected to an antenna 12 adapted to establish communication with the Internet network 32 via the nearest base station 31.
The motor vehicle 10 also includes a second computer 14 which is provided for controlling the starting of the motor vehicle. By starting the vehicle is meant starting the engine and / or air conditioning and / or heating and / or defrosting. This second computer is connected to the first and third computers 13, 15.
The third computer 15 is designed to drive the engine.
Each computer 13, 14, 15 comprises a processor and a storage unit, for example a rewritable non-volatile memory or a hard disk.
The storage unit of the first computer 13 (or as a variant of the second computer 14) stores in particular data used within the framework of the process described below, in particular a confidential code. It also stores a computer application, made up of computer programs comprising instructions, the execution of which by the processor allows the computer to implement the method described below.
The mobile terminal 20 comprises a processor, a memory (for example a rewritable non-volatile memory), a wireless communication module, and a display screen 22 which is here tactile and which is embedded in a chassis 21 .
The wireless communication module makes it possible to establish a wireless link with the first computer 13 of the motor vehicle 10, via the mobile telephone network 30.
The memory allows the mobile terminal 20 to store a user application, intended to facilitate the control of the functionalities of the motor vehicle 10 by means of this mobile terminal 20.
It is therefore in this context that the invention can be implemented.
The invention in fact provides a solution to allow remote control of the starting of the motor vehicle, by means of the mobile terminal 20, in a secure manner.
To ensure the desired level of security, the implementation of remote starting requires the entry on the mobile terminal 20 of a confidential code which will have to be authenticated by the motor vehicle 10 before starting.
It is therefore understood that it is first necessary to store in the storage unit of the first computer 13 (or alternatively of the second computer 14) the confidential code.
This method of storing or updating a confidential code in the storage unit of the first computer 13 takes place in several steps illustrated in FIG. 2.
The first step E1 is a step of initializing the method, during which the user starts the user application recorded in his mobile terminal 20 and during which this user application verifies with the server 33 that the mobile terminal 20 is authorized to start the motor vehicle 10 remotely and that a connection can be established between the server 33 and the first computer 13 of the motor vehicle 10.
Once these operations have been carried out and validated, during a step E2, the user application controls the display on the touch screen 22 of several pieces of information, namely:
- a message 25 asking the user to enter a new confidential code,
- a space in which this new confidential code 23 is displayed, and
- a space 24 for entering the code, which is presented here in the form of a tactile keyboard (see FIG. 1).
When the new confidential code 23 has been entered by the user, it is transmitted during a step E3 to the first computer 13, via the server 33. It will be noted here that, for security reasons, the server 33 does not store not this new confidential code 23 in its database.
When it receives this new confidential code 23, the first computer 13 performs a series of checks to check that the vehicle is in a position to memorize the new confidential code and that the user is properly authenticated. This is at least the position of the user (inside the vehicle) which will be used to confirm that the user is authorized to update the confidential code.
More specifically, during a step E4, the first computer 13 verifies that the engine is stopped.
If this is not the case, the process is interrupted and a message explaining to the user the reason for this interruption is displayed on the screen of his mobile terminal 20.
Otherwise, that is to say if the engine is stopped, the process continues in step E5 (which can optionally be optional).
During this step E5, the first computer 13 checks that the ignition key or the electronic starting card of the vehicle is correctly inserted in the Neiman or in the slot designed for this purpose. In the case where the vehicle does not have a Neiman or a slot, the first computer 13 verifies that the electronic card is indeed located near the vehicle.
If this is not the case, the process is interrupted and a message explaining to the user the reason for this interruption is displayed on the screen of his mobile terminal 20.
Otherwise, the process continues in step E6.
During this step E6, the mobile terminal 20 or the first computer 13 sends a request for actuation of a predetermined physical means from the passenger compartment 11 of the motor vehicle 10.
For this, the user application can control the display on the touch screen 22 of the mobile terminal 20 of a message inviting the user to turn in one direction then in the other the ignition key in the Neiman, a number predetermined times.
This step therefore makes it possible to check that the person using the mobile terminal 20 is indeed the one who is located in the passenger compartment and that this person does indeed have the contact key (which authenticates him as a person authorized to modify the confidential code ).
As a variant, this step E6 could be implemented differently. Thus, by way of example, provision could be made for the first computer 13 to control the vehicle speakers so that the latter emit a prerecorded message asking the user to press a particular button on the vehicle, for a determined period of time. This button could be a physical button (for example the one designed to start the engine) or a virtual button displayed on a touch screen located in the vehicle interior.
In step E7, the first computer 13 waits for the user to perform the requested operation for a predetermined time, of a few seconds.
At the end of this step, if the user has not performed the requested operation, the process is interrupted and a message explaining to the user the reason for this interruption is displayed on the screen of his mobile terminal 20.
Otherwise, during a step E8, the first computer 13 validates the new confidential code 23 and stores it in its storage unit, in place of that which was previously stored.
In summary, we understand that the new confidential code is validated on the sole condition that the user actuates the key or the button in the requested manner. In particular, the user is not asked to enter the old confidential code which was registered, which simplifies updating the code in many situations, in particular following the sale of the motor vehicle 10 or when the user has forgotten the confidential code.
Finally, there is a final step E9, which consists in sending a message to the owner of the vehicle as soon as a person has attempted (successfully or not) to update the confidential code.
For this, the server 33 stores the contact details of the owner of the motor vehicle 10 (physical address and / or email address and / or telephone number, etc.).
We can then provide that, as soon as a new confidential code transits via the server 33 from the mobile terminal 20 to the motor vehicle 10 (in step E3), the server 33 sends a message to the owner of the motor vehicle 10 to alert them that someone is trying to change the PIN.
We can now describe the manner in which the user can then remotely start the motor vehicle 10 if he is aware of the new confidential code.
The first step is an initialization step of the method, during which the user starts the user application registered in his mobile terminal 20 and during which this user application verifies with the server 33 that a connection can be established. between the server 33 and the first computer 13 of the motor vehicle 10.
When this is the case, the user application controls the display on the touch screen 21 of the mobile terminal 20 of a message inviting the user to enter the confidential code.
It will be noted here that this confidential code will be distinct from the unlocking code of the mobile terminal 20 and that it will be specific to the remote start of the motor vehicle.
Once this confidential code has been entered, the mobile terminal 20 sends a remote start request for the motor vehicle 10, which includes the confidential code.
When it receives this request, the first computer 13 verifies that the confidential code received corresponds to the confidential code which is stored in its storage unit.
If this is the case, the vehicle engine will be started automatically, without the use of the ignition key or the starter electronic card.
Otherwise, an error signal is returned to the mobile terminal 20 so that the user application controls the display on the touch screen 22 of an error message and a request to re-enter the code. confidential.
Preferably, after a determined number of errors (for example 3), the process is interrupted and the mobile terminal 20 displays to the user a message indicating that the remote start function of the vehicle will remain blocked as long as the engine n 'will not have been started conventionally, in situ, that is to say using the ignition key or the electronic card for starting the vehicle from inside the passenger compartment 11 of this vehicle.
For its part, the first computer 13 then suspends the remote start function until it has received from the second computer 14 a signal indicating that the engine has been started from inside the passenger compartment 11 of this vehicle .
The present invention is not limited to the embodiment described and shown, but the skilled person will be able to make any variant according to the invention.
In particular, it could be provided that when the mobile terminal transmits a remote start request to the motor vehicle 10, this request does not include the confidential code, but rather a challenge, that is to say the result of a calculation. performed by the mobile terminal 20 as a function of the confidential code entered by the user.
Then, upon receipt of this challenge, the vehicle can also perform the calculation according to the confidential code stored in its storage unit, then verify that the challenges correspond.
According to another variant of the invention, it could be provided that when the mobile terminal transmits to the motor vehicle 10 a remote start request, this request includes an hour for programming said remote start.
In this way, the user will be able to schedule the vehicle to start at a selected time, for example 5 minutes before the usual time at which he leaves to work.
